Chlorpheniramine Maleate is one of the two oldest and best working antihistamines on the market, the other being Diphenhydramine. Trade names for these are Chlor-Trimeton and Benadryl respectively. Their worst side-effect is drowsiness, although chlorpheniramine produces much less of this effect. I have severe food allergies, and I have taken chlorpheniramine for around 60 years. When the 12 mg dosage disappeared from the market, I started using brompheniramine maleate. It is essentially identical in performance. If drowsiness is a problem with antihistamines, take them at night. A good night's sleep will help you cope with daytime allergies.

More modern antihistamines (now called histamine blockers) are designed to not cause drowsiness, but sadly they do not work as well. If you switch to chlorpheniramine, be aware of the drowsiness issue until you are used to it.

How to Wear? (see pic)

- Insert filters into nostrils, then it fastens on nasal septum
- From side view, the filter should maintain a slanted position in the nose

How to Clean? (see pic)

Quick Cleaning

- Make the filter wet with clean water
- Put the tissue on both sides of the filter
- Press the tissue to dry it, but do not twist the filter

Thorough Cleaning

- Put the clean water into a small jewelry ultrasonic cleaner
- Put the filter in the water for 3 minutes
- Switch on the ultrasonic cleaner for 2 to 3 minutes
- Dry the filter with tissue just like the quick cleaning
- Clean it thoroughly every day or every other day

(1) It really works! I have terrible allergies that remain, even with medication. This is a much better option than wearing a full face mask. It does help immensely in alleviating my allergies and allows me to be outside and drive without looking like a freak wearing a full mask.

(2) The nose filters fit well. There are eight sizes, and the size IIR fit me very well (no air enters my nostrils from around the sides when I breathe either in or out meaning it is only filtered air that I am breathing through my nose). The flexible frame is also helpful for better fit.

(3) Easy to breathe. Unlike a mask, which has a large surface air for air flow exchange, the nose filters are tiny and a lot of air has to be squeezed through a tight place. It is so amazing that the air can pass easily through such a tight place.

I followed the instructions and after measuring my nose, I ordered the suggested size. However, when I got them, they were loose.

I know it would be a trial and error period. I think they would work well if they were a snug fit.

Guess you could purchase the samples kit but it still doesn't give you the same results as using the actual filters. I can see the workings of these and feel it would be great. But at those prices, be sure you get the right size.

If you are reading the reviews on Claritin, you probably already know it is a wonderful allergy medication, so my review isn't really on the Claritin itself. My son, who is 4, suffers from seasonal allergies. The children's Claritin works great for him, but it is so expensive that I went to our family pediatrician in search of a cheaper method. His pediatrician informed me that the childrens Claritin contains 5mg of the active ingredient, and the adult RediTabs contains 10mg...thus cutting the RediTab in half results in the same dosage as the childrens. This has been a wonderful help in paying for my son's Claritin because an adult box of 30 RediTabs lasts him 60 days for the same price as a childrens box of 20 chewable tablets. Now, I am no doctor and am only relaying to you what my childs pediatrician said was OK to do. :-)

My 4 year old daughter suffers from allergies that cause her to itch and go into coughing fits. This gets worse when she is in bed for the night. Usually I would give her the dye free liquid Children's Zyrtec, which works very well for us. I'm open to change, so this evening, instead of the Zyrtec, I gave her one of the Claritin about 20 minutes prior to tucking her in. When I gave it to her she said "Mmmm, mmmm, this tastes better than my vitamins!" Since then I heard her cough once and then nothing else. For her that is a big deal. The Zyrtec usually doesn't work that quickly and she has to deal with about 30 minutes worth of coughing before it kicks in. I can't speak to how long it works since it's only been a few hours, but so far it is working great.

There are a few concerns I have about the Claritin for children. First of all, I try to give my children medicines that are as close to natural as possible. At the very least, I would like them to be dye free and... Read more
